Google boss Eric Schmidt has defended his company’s tax policies in a radio interview, saying that he is “perplexed” by the debate over the company’s tax affairs.

Google has faced criticism in Britain since it was revealed that it had paid £3.4 million in tax on £3.2 billion of sales to customers in Britain last year. Google accounts for its British sales under the Irish tax system.
