The practice of buying Google adwords that include competitors’ trademarked names or products may soon be banned.

Next week, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) will rule on a landmark case being taken by construction firm Portakabin against a rival, Primakabin.

Primakabin bought the word ‘Portakabin’ as an adword on Google and other search engines. A person searching for that word was shown online ads directing them to Primakabin’s website.
