Consumer spending across the hardware, DIY, homewares and garden retail sector has soared in recent weeks, offering a respite for the beleaguered sector, the Hardware Association of Ireland said today.

In contrast to the latest CSO retail sales index, which showed a volume decrease of 2 per cent for hardware in May, hardware businesses are reporting a significant improvement and upsurge in sales in June.
