Afew weeks ago, I decided to collect seeds from one of the only successes I had in my summer garden. As tomatoes failed to ripen and flowers fell prey to hungry slugs, a cluster of willowy poppies defied the odds and thrived. They kept me from throwing in the trowel altogether.
