Golden ticket in Monaghan soil

Exploration veteran Richard Conroy has advanced plans for a gold mine at Clontibret in Co Monaghan and high hopes for another prospect in Co Armagh.

Professor Richard Conroy: his company announced today that it sees potential for "high tonnage" gold in Armagh. In December, he spoke to the Sunday Business Post about his company's prospects.

If the quiet but lofty ambitions of one Irish exploration company are to be believed, the stony grey soil of Monaghan is glittering with gold.

So confident is Professor Richard Conroy of the 30 mile long trend his company Conroy Gold & Natural Resources is exploring between Armagh and Longford, that he believes it could ultimately help push Ireland into the top twenty gold-producing countries in the world.
