Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore has said it would be “helpful” if senior bondholders in Spanish banks faced losses as part of a European accord for the country’s lenders.

He was speaking to reporters, following reports that the European Central Bank no longer opposes the forcing of losses on senior bondholders in Spanish banks.
