Gay couples in civil partnerships could be in line for improved retirement benefits after the European Court of Justice (ECJ) decided, earlier this month, that they should have the same pension rights as married couples.

Europe’s top court ruled that German laws which allow better pensions for married people than for those in civil partnerships breach EU laws on discrimination.
