Gardai review bribery of foreign official in Oman

Gardai have begun a review into the bribery of a foreign official in a Middle Eastern country over the cancellation of a substantial fine against a power plant operated jointly by ESB International and another company.

The Sunday Business Post has learned that the Garda review, which was launched last July, follows the conviction of an official in Oman over the receipt of a bribe for cancelling the fine.

ESBI, the international wing of the ESB, operates the plant at Al Rusayl, near Muscat, in a joint venture partnership with the Oman National Electric Company (ONEC).
