Almost 500 new hand-held units cannot download information about a driver’s penalty-point history, the head of the Garda Traffic Corps has confirmed.

Almost 500 new hand-held units cannot download information about a driver’s penalty-point history, the head of the Garda Traffic Corps has confirmed.

‘‘The technology is there but that will be a matter for the various authorities,” said Chief Superintendent John Farrelly. He anticipated such a link-up would possible in the future.

The units, featured in TV adverts this weekend, were purchased by the gardai from Fujitsu in 2003.
