Garda Commissioner Noel Conroy has mounted an extraordinary defence of the botched McBrearty investigation in Donegal.
In a 100-page submission to the Garda corruption tribunal – exclusively obtained by The Sunday Business Post – the commissioner said the controversial inquiry into the death of cattle dealer Richie Barron on October 14, 1996, met the best practice standards expected of gardai.
