Californian wine producer E&J Gallo has doubled its marketing spend in Ireland this year in a bid to ward off cut-price competitors.

The past three years have seen a rapid influx of discount New World wines on the Irish market, but their popularity is starting to fade, according to Jason Duggan, Gallo's marketing manager for Ireland.
