Fyffes shares tumble as takeover bid emerges for Chiquita

Shares in Irish fruit distributor Fyffes have taken a nose dive this afternoon after the company it is planning to merge with became the subject of a takeover offer itself.

In March it was announced that Fyffes is to merge with rival Chiquita.

Shares in Irish fruit distributor Fyffes have taken a nose dive this afternoon after the company it is planning to merge with became the subject of a takeover offer itself.

The share price was down 17.8 per cent a short time ago after it was announced that Chiquita Brands International had received a takeover offer from the Cutrale Group and the Safra Group for $13 a share.
