The British housing market faces more uncertainty as potential home-owners delay buying due to speculation over government plans to try and calm the market.

Chancellor Alistair Darling admitted last week that he was considering a ‘‘range of options’’ for the government’s economic revival plan. However, he refused to say if the much-publicised idea of a stamp duty holiday for first-time buyers was among them.
