Greater restrictions on the use of property tax reliefs by higher income groups, rather than 'guillotining' all Section 23 reliefs, are expected in Tuesday's budget.
There could also be further reductions in the amount of mortgage interest that can be offset as an expense against rental income. This was reduced from 100 per cent to 75 per cent in 2009 and, at the time, it was estimated that the change would yield €95 million in a full tax year.
