The impact that rising fuel costs are having on households and businesses has come under renewed focus, as the opposition and business groups put pressure on the government to provide some respite from soaring bills.

Last week, Fianna Fáil tabled an emergency bill to cut excise tax on petrol and diesel by 5c per litre.
