France, Germany urge treaty change by March
UPDATE: Germany's Angela Merkel and Nicolas Sarkozy of France call for decisive action to amend EU treaties by March 2012, with tax convergence on the wish-list.
Germany's Angela Merkel and Nicolas Sarkozy of France have outlined their wish for countries to agree on tighter fiscal convergence and budgetary discipline ahead of tomorrow's EU summit.
While they made clear they want all EU countries to take part, they said an alternative was for euro zone countries to go ahead.
In the document addressed to the EU president Herman Von Rompuy , the two leaders urged the passing of EU treaty amendments by March 2012.
