Tuesday’s deadline for oil drilling licence applications in the Atlantic off the Irish coast is a key matter of interest in drilling here, writes Rob Brown

Energy and natural resources minister Pat Rabbitte will be raking through his mailbox with more interest than usual on Tuesday.

With May 31 as the deadline for the 2011 Atlantic margin licensing round, that is the day the department will find out if it has drummed up increased interest among the world’s oil and gas companies in drilling off the west coast of Ireland.
