Better-than-expected fourth quarter results posted by Sainsbury's last week will be welcomed by Greencore, one of its major suppliers, after weeks of negative attention arising from the horsemeat scandal.

During an eventful week for the food and beverage sector in Britain, the country's third-largest supermarket posted a 3.6 per cent increase in like-for-like sales - a 33rd consecutive quarter of growth for the business.
