Five-fold increase in registry-office wedding fees

The Department of Health has increased the cost of a civil marriage from €20 to €108.

The Department of Health has increased the cost of a civil marriage from €20 to €108.

Dublin City and County Registrar Myles Kane said there had been no cancellations since the increase was implemented on December 12.

He said that, while some had complained about the increased cost, many others had said it was still inexpensive compared with a religious ceremony.
