Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Simon Coveney has secured a mandate from EU fisheries ministers to enter final negotiations with the European Parliament on reforming the Common Fisheries Policy.

He said the agreement would pave the way for an end to the controversial practice of discarding fish catches that do not match up with EU quotas.
