The Irish Fish Producers Organisation (IFPO) and Federation of Irish Fisherman (FIF) have welcomed the new Irish fish quotas agreed at the in the EU in the early hours of yesterday morning and described them as "a step in the right direction".

Lorcan O'Cinnéide, chief executive of the IFPO, said that while fishermen and producers did not get "everything we wanted, we got most of it".
