Firms vie for Irish Open

AIB, Allianz and O2 are some of the companies expected to be in the running to take over the sponsorship of the new look €3million Irish Open golf tournament.

Adare Manor in Co Limerick last week signed a new three-year deal from 2007 to 2009 with the PGA European Tour to host the event which will begin on May 17 next year.

The search for new sponsors began last week with the announcement that Nissan was ending its four-year relationship with the tournament. Nissan had been associated with the Irish Open since 2003, when the event took place at Portmarnock.
