Fire crews stuck in slow lane as they wait for kit

The Irish Fire and Emergency Services Association (IFESA) has expressed concern over delays in the supply of essential equipment to fire stations.

The group has called on the Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG) to investigate tendering practices in the public sector, which it believes are the root of the problem.

Since 2004, a number of approved applications by fire stations for fire and rescue service vehicles have failed to deliver operational vehicles.
