Financial companies to be named and shamed under new legislation

The Government will not oppose a Bill brought forward by Fianna Fail finance spokesperson that will allow financial services companies to be named and shamed where they breach consumer rights.

The Government will not oppose a Bill brought forward by Fianna Fail finance spokesperson Michael McGrath that will allow financial services companies to be named and shamed where they breach consumer rights.

In a rare example of cross-party agreement between the Government and opposition, Minister for Finance Michael Noonan described Deputy McGrath's Bill as a "fine piece of work." It will give new powers to the Financial Services Ombudsman to name companies in certain circumstances...
