Finance officials were wary of state exposure to bank losses

Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan has said that senior Department of Finance officials were wary of exposing the state to any possible losses at Anglo and Irish Nationwide Building Society (INBS) in the run-up to the granting of the state guarantee.

Minister for Finance Brian Lenihan has said that senior Department of Finance officials were wary of exposing the state to any possible losses at Anglo and Irish Nationwide Building Society (INBS) in the run-up to the granting of the state guarantee.

However, he said that the officials were working from the results of stress tests on what could happen, rather than firm forecasts of emerging black holes at either institution.
