Finance casts a cold eye on job creation agencies

Radical changes to how our numerous enterprise bodies do business could be on the way

As the economic downturn puts pressure on companies and jobs, the role of so-called job creation agencies is coming under increasing focus.

The new Programme for Government acknowledged that fact last week, with a commitment to ‘‘an independent review of the effectiveness of state agency support for enterprise’’.

It will examine bodies such as IDA Ireland, Enterprise Ireland, and county enterprise boards, and the way they work together.
