Government officials and the Financial Regulator are this weekend working on a final estimate of the cost of bailing out Anglo Irish Bank.

The government hopes that an announcement of the final figure, expected this week, will start to rebuild investor confidence, after a week when government bonds came under heavy selling pressure on the markets.
