Considering that it stars two likeable comedy stalwarts, the fearless Melissa McCarthy and masterful straight-man Jason Bateman, and is directed by Bateman's Horrible Bosses director Seth Gordon, audiences might have expected more from Identity Thief than crude gags, lazy cultural stereotypes and hackneyed plotting.
