Fifa says Qatar World Cup will be played in winter

Fifa has ruled out any prospect of the Qatar 2022 World Cup being played in the summer because of fears that the heat could be dangerous for both players and fans.

Fifa has ruled out any prospect of the Qatar 2022 World Cup being played in the summer because of fears that the heat could be dangerous for both players and fans.

Fifa general secretary Jerome Valcke told Radio France that the tournament would take place some time between 15 November and 15 January.

"The dates for the World Cup (in Qatar) will not be June-July," he said.
