Proposals to reform the PRSI system to extend social welfare benefits to the self-employed will be published shortly by Fianna Fáil in a private members' motion.

The bill proposes a phased reform of the social welfare system to include safety nets for the self-employed.

This could be done through a voluntary opt-in scheme or giving recognition for payments already made under class S PRSI under proposals drafted by Fianna Fáil's finance spokesman, Michael...
