FF ready for backlash

Fianna Fáil TDs are bracing themselves for a torrent of union protests demanding a u-turn on the pension levy, writes Niamh Connolly, Political Correspondent

Government ministers and deputies ran a gauntlet of protests outside Leinster House last week as a heated debate on the pension levy bill took place in the Dáil chamber.

The Taoiseach, Brian Cowen, and the Minister for Finance, Brian Lenihan, addressed a Fianna Fáil parliamentary party meeting on the eve of the bill’s publication to fortify the backbenchers against the torrent of anger on the streets expected over the coming weeks....
