Further writedowns wiped out the insurance firm’s operating profit in 2010, but shareholders can now look forward to better times ahead

FBD customers will not be happy to hear that their premiums are set to rise further this year, but shareholders may finally have something to celebrate in 2011 as management and analysts are predicting a return to profit after three years of losses.

A tail-off in painful writedowns, higher prices and conservative underwriting are expected to help FBD put an end to a difficult spell which saw the company’s share price tumble from a Celtic tiger...
