Despite the tragedy of the murder s in the North last week, this epis o d e m ay prove to be the last violent gasp of the physical-force tradition in Irish republicanism.

Yesterday, three men were arrested and questioned about the Real IRA murders of two British soldiers in Antrim last weekend, and separately, three other men were detained over the shooting dead of PSNI constable Steven Carroll.
