The estate of the late Tony Sweeney casts a long shadow over the spring sales. Remembered as the doyen of Irish racing journalists, he was a man of many enthusiasms.

He was the author of the Sweeney Guide to the Irish Turf, but also of Ireland and the Printed Word 1475-1700, a scholarly survey of pre-1700 books associated with Ireland.

Negotiations are now underway with an institution regarding his personal collection of pre-1700s books.
