Fás is attempting to weed out ‘rogue purchasing’ by staff by ordering senior employees to attend special courses on procurement and tendering processes.

Paul O’Toole, the new director-general of the training agency, has taken the unusual step of compelling high-level managers to attend briefings on Irish and EU procurement rules. The move, which applies to all senior staff up to the grade of director, comes after an internal review.
