Fall in church collections means a drop in incomes for priests

Catholic priests in the archdiocese of Dublin are to take a 6 per cent salary cut because of a fall in church collections.

In a letter sent to priests last week, they were told that collections were ‘‘continuing to fall and there is no indication of a stabilisation’’. ‘‘The Common Fund [the first collection At Masses] has never before experienced such a fall in income,” read the letter from the diocesan Finance Secretariat chairman Anthony Reilly....
