Golf construction expert Michael O’Leary is building a course for Donald Trump in Scotland, and sees his company’s future growth taking place abroad

Just before Christmas, Michael O’Leary was driving his jeep along the Portlaoise by-pass when he had a phone call from Donald Trump.

The US tycoon-turned-television star, known as ‘the Don’, was finalising audacious plans for a €1 billion golf resort in north Scotland, and O’Leary’s company, Sol Golf Construction, was one of four shortlisted to build the actual course. O’Leary pulled his jeep onto the hard shoulder and began playing hardball....
