Extra money for courts, gardai to come from justice and equality - Shatter

Justice minister Alan Shatter has told an Oireachtas committee that extra money required by the courts and the gardai can be provided by savings from the justice and equality area.

Justice minister Alan Shatter has told the select committee on Justice, Defence and Equality that extra money required by the courts and the gardai can be provided by savings from the justice and equality area.

The minister said the Garda were looking for an extra €8.5 million while the courts needed an additional €5 million, but these could be funded “with a bit to spare” from projected savings of about €17 million in the justice...
