Plans to raise €14 million next year by extending betting tax to cover offshore, online and phone betting will be announced in Tuesday's budget by the Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan.

The existing 1 per cent rate of betting tax will remain next year until the new online system "beds down", according to the Minister for Agriculture, Simon Coveney, who has responsibility for the horse racing and greyhound industries.
