Exports: FX activity signals improved exporter confidence

A significant increase in foreign exchange activity this year among small businesses is a sign that exporter confidence is rising, according to Bank of Ireland.

A significant increase in foreign exchange activity this year among small businesses is a sign that exporter confidence is rising, according to Bank of Ireland.

Activity in forward contracts, foreign exchange contracts that fix an execution price in the future, is up 22 per cent in 2012, indicating certainty of cashflow and an increase in business confidence for SMEs doing business abroad, the bank said.
