Exchequer returns: key details

The key details from the Q1 2014 Exchequer returns, released by the Department of Finance this afternoon

An exchequer deficit of €2.3 billion was recorded to end of March 2014. This compares with a deficit of €3.7 billion to end of March 2013.

* **Income tax** totalled €3,795 million to end March, an increase of €129 million (3.5%) year-on-year and up €4 million (0.1%) on profile.

* **VAT** receipts for the year to date totalled €3,509 million, up €56 million (1.6%) on profile and an increase of €210 million (6.4%) on the same period last year.

* **Corporation tax** receipts of €256 million to end-March are €138 million (35.1%) down year-on-year, but €38 million (17.5%) above profile. The year-on-year performance is primarily driven by...
