Exchequer records €704m surplus in January

UPDATE: The Exchequer recorded a surplus of €704 million in January 2013 compared to a deficit of €394 million in the same month twelve months ago, the Department of Finance has said.

Tax revenues in January 2013 amounted to €3,774 million, the Department of Finance said.

The Exchequer recorded a surplus of €704 million in January 2013 compared to a deficit of €394 million in the same month twelve months ago, the Department of Finance has said.

While tax revenues were up 3% year on year, the 2013 Exchequer Balance also benefited from the proceeds of the sale of Contingent Capital notes in Bank of Ireland, the department said.
