At Bonham's sale last week, Creative Encounters: Portraits of Writers, Artists and Musicians, another world record was achieved when a signed photograph by Yousef Karsh of the novelist Graham Greene was sold for stg£20,400, 10 times its lower estimate, to an anonymous telephone bidder against fierce competition in the room.
The price augurs well for Christie's photographs sale on November 1, where stg£1,500-stg£2,000 is the estimate for a snapshot of the 16-year-old Norma Jean Baker...
