European support for fracking increases

The EU's chief science advisor and energy commissioner have come out in favour of the controversial shale gas extraction process known as 'fracking' ahead of a major meeting of European energy ministers in Dublin.

Anne Glover, the chief scientific adviser to Commission president José Manuel Barroso, warned that Europe "should not go into a denial phase" over the benefits of shale gas extraction. She said the scientific studies had shown the benefits to be considerable....
