Democracy had another fantastic weekend last week, when Declan Ganley of Rivada Networks announced that he would be running as a candidate in the north-west constituency in the European Parliament elections in June.

Ganley himself is going to step down as chief executive of Rivada, though fortunately he will stay on as chairman. Rivada is a sort of telecommunications company with links to the US military. It even tried to get a licence for mobile...
