European airports from London's Heathrow to Frankfurt cancelled hundreds of flights over the weekend and prepared to curtail more as snow and freezing rain swept across the continent.

At home, Aer Lingus said winter weather conditions continued to be a threat to its operating schedule and could cause further delays and cancellations today.
