Europe to rule on civil servant contracts

The European Court of Justice (ECJ) will hear arguments on Wednesday by 91 temporary Irish civil servants who say they should be made permanent.

The European Court of Justice (ECJ) will hear arguments on Wednesday by 91 temporary Irish civil servants who say they should be made permanent.

The Labour Court referred the matter to the ECJ for a preliminary ruling in June 2006. The case involves staff in the departments of Agriculture and Food; Arts, Sport and Tourism; Communications, Marine and Natural Resources; Foreign Affairs; Justice, Equality and Law Reform and Transport.
