Last Wednesday, Euro NCAP released the results of its latest round of car safety assessments. Six vehicles were tested: the Audi Q5, Honda Jazz, Hyundai i20, Kia Soul, Peugeot 3008 and Suzuki Alto. All of these, except the Suzuki, received a top five-star rating.

Michiel van Ratingen, secretary general of Euro NCAP, praised the makers of the top models, saying: ‘‘Many claim that the weight and size of a car is the only criteria for safety...
