The euro remained supported this week despite a number of negative political and economic developments. Political risks centered on French President Nicolas Sarkozy's poor showing in the first round of the French elections and comments from his main opponent French Socialist candidate Francois Hollande that he would look to renegotiate the fiscal compact if elected. The surprise resignation of the Dutch government led to further political uncertainty.
