Talks with Turkey on joining the European Union are likely to resume in June after a three-year pause, Tanaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Eamon Gilmore said.

"We hope to open that next month," Gilmore told reporters after chairing an EU-Turkey meeting in Brussels today. "It is a sign of the continued commitment of both sides to moving the relationship and the accession process forward."

Next month's talks will address EU regional policies.
